November 24 1998 A Warm Reception for a Wonderful Rider The thundering
applause that accompanied Bonfire's extended canter to 'I Like to be in
America' said it all. Obviously America liked having Bonfire and Anky
van Grunsven too. Anky's WEG kur to the theme from West Side Story was
a big hit at Madison Square Garden in early November. But more than entertaining her rides were educational as well. For a couple of her performance rides Anky wore a microphone and explained and demonstrated some of the finer points of dressage to a very appreciative audience. Following each performance Anky made herself available to meet dressage fans and signed over 1,000 autographs at the Cliff-Barnsby saddle display where visitors could see the new AVG/Bonfire saddle for the first time in the U.S. Photo of Anky and Bonfire at the 1998 World Equestrian Games, Rome, Italy by Eric Lin of White Fences |
