July 3 1999 A Visit With Dr. Reiner Klimke A highlight of our Euro-Tour was a visit to the home and stables
of Dr. Reiner Klimke in Muenster, Germany. After our coverage of the World
Championships in 1982 in Lausanne, Switzerland where he won the individual
Gold Medal on Alerich, we became good friends. It took this long for a return and we were treated like honored guests with his wife Ruth's fabulous cooking and son Rholf's tour of the charming city of Muenster. We also watched as Ingrid Klimke, one of Germany's leading Three Day Event riders prepared for a weekend competition being coached by her father. The only rider in the history of the Olympics to win six medals, Dr. Klimke let me know for a moment what they felt like around my neck! Coverage of the 1999 European Championships continues this weekend. Visit their official website for news and results. |
