West Palm Beach, FL – Canadian Olympian Jacqueline Brooks and her Hanoverian gelding Balmoral rode away the winners of the FEI Test of Choice at the Wellington Classic Dressage Challenge II show, held at the Jim Brandon Equestrian Center. Draper Equine Therapy, makers of therapeutic horse and rider products featuring the innovative “smart fiber” Celliant™/Holofiber®, sponsored the class and awarded Brooks with a Draper Saddle Pad. “Balmoral is really gaining confidence and we had fun in this test,” said Brooks, who shows out of her own Brookhaven Dressage, in Ontario, Canada. “I gave him the season off when I went to the Olympics, so he missed a whole Florida season. Balmoral was a little behind because of it, but I have had a lot of help from Ashley Holzer, and he is doing wonderful.”

We use corridors of aid pressures to create a feel in the horse of a shape we want his body to take. Refinements in the positioning, intensity, timing and release of our basic seat, leg, and rein aids convey information about gait, speed, direction and the degree of collection we want. We aspire to the clear, precise coordination of aids that allows us to flow from one movement into the next then the next as we ride. In our daily riding sessions, however, "aspire" is more often the operative word than our actual experience.

Loxahatchee, Florida – They came. They won. They went home. After collecting a number of ribbons at the Wellington Classic Dressage Challenge II, held March 12-14 at the Jim Brandon Equestrian Center, the Barteau family loaded up their horses and headed out Sunday for the 23-hour drive home to the Chicago area. It was a quick trip for Yvonne Barteau. Her daughter, Kassie, 21, spent the winter in Florida as a working student with Cathy Morelli while her parents, Yvonne and Kim, were back home at their KYB Dressage in Maple Park, Illinois. "We have the business to run and it's been very busy this year," Yvonne said. She came down to compete in last weekend's Palm Beach Dressage Derby CDI and this past weekend's Challenge II.
