Amanda Cargile and Haydn

Amanda Cargile made an amazing discovery one-day in her barn. Her Mother Ann's new horse "Haydn," a gelding purchased by trainer David Wightman from Johan Hinneman in Germany behaved a bit studdishly when a mare walked passed him. They assumed he must have been gelded later in his life and thought nothing more of it.

He came with two names, Ravel, which was because his sire Rossini was a Westfalien and would have been named, according to German papers, beginning with an R. His other name came with his Dutch papers as Haydn. The Dutch name their offspring using the next letter in the alphabet for each year (2000 is the T year).

In the stall, right next to him was a 5-year-old Gelding named Maximum, who Cargile had been training for over a year and a half. A page from the KWPN studbook on Max's stall showed his sire to be Ravel by Rossini. A closer look at the photo revealed her 1999 North American Young Rider horse was none other than the former KWPN approved stallion Haydn, who had unbeknownst to all been living next to his son in the California barn.
