October 26 1999 Fair Hill Event Champions Prove Dressage Counts
The 1996 Olympic Eventing Team Silver Medallists,
husband and wife David and Karen O'Connor placed first and second, respectively
at the Fair Hill International Three-Day Event, in Fair Hill Maryland,
this past weekend. David O'Connor's original dressage score (in Eventing based on penalty points) of 92 gained only 5 additional penalty points for time in the cross country phase. Riding David Lenaburg's 8 year old thoroughbred gelding Rattle & Hum with a clean show jumping round he clinched his victory over leader Abigail Lufkin who lost her 12 point lead dropping two rails and adding to her time penalties. Moving into second, and reserve champion were O'Connor's wife Karen (Lende) O'Connor with Regal Scot, an 11-year-old New Zealand Thoroughbred owned by Jacqueline Mars and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Thompson.
