Blyth Tait (NZL) and Welton Envoy

Blyth Tait and Welton Envoy Current Olympic and World Champion Blyth Tait of New Zealand galloped to victory in the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event, Presented by Bayer, at Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, after establishing a strong position in dressage entering the cross country phase in second place.

Riding the 13-year-old Thoroughbred-cross, Welton Envoy, by Welton Crackerjack out of Minerva, owned by On Line Finance Ltd. and Sam Barr of Great Britain, Tait scored a 39.0, and finishing second to fellow countryman Mark Todd. In eventing dressage is scored on a penalty point basis, with the lowest score actually being the highest position.

Tait added only .9 percent to his score in time penalties, with a clean cross-country and show jumping round. All top placed competitors scored well in dressage proving the importance of the first phase of the sport of Eventing, the triathlon of the equestrian sports.
