August 25 2000 Spring Creek Equestrian Center
From the
outdoor patio of our favorite restaurant in the entire world, The Granary
Restaurant at Spring Creek, we have the perfect view of The Spring Creek
Equestrian Center, where competition begins today at The Jackson Hole
Horse Trials with the dressage phase of the competition. With over 200
rides and competitors from California, Nevada, Montana, Idaho, Utah and
Wyoming, Jackson Hole is worth the trip when it comes to picking an event
in the wild west to participate in. Featuring an advanced division for the first time, the cross-country course designed by Capt. Mark Phillips and constructed by Mick Costello, is ready for action which will begin at 8:AM Saturday morning. But it's not just the horse action that makes this event. Hosted by Bill and Robin Weiss, hospitality abounds, from fine wine and dinners for the hard working officials, to Sporting Clay Shooting, and Fly-Casting lessons. Then there's the shopping and fine dining in the very western town of Jackson Hole. The magnificent Teton Mountain Range, the perfect backdrop for our photos, looms over all activities. While we can see plumes of smoke in the distance from the vast wildfires haunting the west, the skies are clear here, and everyone seems to have made it through the mountain pass. After an awesome dinner of elk and encrusted oriental fish, followed by a dessert of huckleberry crème bruleè, we headed down the hill where we are staying (in the building on the lower left-hand corner) for the weekend.
