Who's Who: Michael Etherly

Michael Etherly was only four years old when he sat on a horse for the first time, and by age 11 as a member of the Pony Club, he was a successful competitor at Three-Day Events and in jumping and dressage shows, although he had never owned a horse. At age 23, Michael decided to make horses his profession and launched his career as a dressage rider and trainer.

He has worked his way up from riding stables and breeding facilities, with a stint as a working student for Steffen Peters, to his present position as head rider and trainer for Karin and Jim Offield's Brek-N-Ridge Farm in Harbor Springs, Michigan. Currently, of the five horses Michael trains for the Offields, three are competing in FEI level competitions.

Michael and Karin plan to take them to Europe to gain experience and exposure internationally with the ultimate goal of qualifying to compete as members of the United States Equestrian Team.
