Americans Buy Top Dressage Horses at the 2004 P.S.I. Auction in Ankum

Even though a show jumping horse achieved the top knock down price at the 25th P.S.I. Auction in Ankum, Germany, the dressage horses in the collection raised jaw dropping amounts of money at the 2004 PSI Auctionin Ankum, the most prestigious warmblood horse auction in Germany.

Organized by Paul Schockemohle and Ullrich Kasselmann, the P.S.I. Auction was in its 25th edition this year. The bay show jumper Quin Chin (Quantum x Champione), who won the 2004 World Young Show Jumping Horse Championships in Lanaken, sold to an Asian rider for 1,200,000 euro. Quin Chin will stay at Schockemohle's in Muhlen for further training.

The second highest price of the auction was 750,000 euro. An American bought the Oldenburg licensed stallion Santa Cruz (Sandro Hit x Calypso II) for this amount of money. Santa Cruz will stay in Germany for another year to be trained to Prix St Georges level, before moving to the States.

The dressage horse that was expected to fetch the highest price was the Oldenburg mare Damenwahl (Donnerhall x Weltmeyer x Rubinstein). This lovely 3-year old sold for "only" 700,000 euro to Baron von Reichenstein in Switzerland. The horse will, however, be trained by Christoph and Ilona Niemann in Germany.

Another licensed breeding stallion that sold to the United States was the Oldenburg stallion San Rubin (Sandro Hit x Rubinstein). This bay Oldenburg Regional Dressage Champion sold for 250,000 euro and will be standing at Hilda Gurney's farm in California.

Louisiana, a delightful Baden Wurttemberger mare by Lord Sinclair x Romino, sold to France for 420,000 euro. She'll be trained by Grand Prix rider Philippe van den Berge.

Peter and Patty van der Zwan, the buyers of Poetin --the mare who achieved the all time PSI record selling price of 2,5 million euro -- purchased Flor de Selva, a chestnut Florestan x Bormio xx gelding for 350,000 euro.

The 2004 P.S.I. Auction in Ankum, which celebrated its 25th jubilee edition, produced a total turnover of 11,8 million euros. The dressage horses were good for a total of 4,9 million euro and an average price of 205,625 euro per horse.
