Ride for the Cure - Schooling Show for a Great Cause

There is Aachen, there is Dressage at Devon, and then the World Cup Final in Las Vegas, but what is more fun than work as we wind down our 2005 year of covering more than 25 events, is a little schooling show in our own back yard, The North Florida Dressage Association’s annual “Ride for the Cure.” At the Clay County Agricultural center, near Jacksonville, Florida.

Headed up by members and both former presidents of the NFDA, Marge Savage and Mary Ann Kovach sponsor the event. Riders are encouraged to wear pink, and the horses can dress up too. Since the event is held on Halloween weekend, a “Pink Parade” during the noon break is part of the festivities along with a barbecue donated by NFDA husband Tom Savage.

Show secretary and Chris and husband Dale Dunn just returned from doing rescue work for the horses and animals of hurricane Katrina, took the time to relax and ride, creating a special class for their student John Cobb, Introductory Level Test A. Sales of ‘Ride for the Cure’ saddle pads, hats and more, as well as generous donations from club members raised money for the Susan G Komen Foundation. One of our country’s leading forces behind funding a cure for breast cancer.

This is what Dressage in America is really all about; great clubs with comradery and teamwork doing good things and having fun.
