Ottawa Summer Dressage Classic Evi Strasser and Quantum Tyme Top Grand Prix, Diane Creech and Wiona Win Prix St. Georges "I am accomplishing exactly what I wanted to accomplish with this competition," said Strasser, who is using the CDI3* Ottawa Summer Dressage Classic to prepare for the 2006 World Equestrian Games that will take place in August in Aachen, Germany. "Quantum Tyme is very fit and while he is an experienced Grand Prix horse, now we are polishing and putting the final touches on our competition performances." Cheryl Meisner of Halifax, NS, made her journey to Ottawa worthwhile by finishing second with Paganini, a nine-year-old Dutch Warmblood stallion owned by Lobster Point Farms. "I was really happy, I think that was one of our best tests," said the 24-year-old athlete who also placed sixth with Hesperos, a 12-year-old German Trakehner gelding. "I was also happy with my test with Hesperos considering that I only had 25 minutes to warm-up him up after riding Paganini and usually I would take an hour. But having two Grand Prix horses is a good problem to have." Tom Dvorak and the elegant black mare, Westside Lady, took third place scoring 63.375%. Dvorak enjoyed a victory earlier in the day when he topped the FEI Five-Year-Old Division with Viva's Salieri, bred and owned by Augustin Walch of Stratford, ON. As his name would indicate, the strikingly handsome liver chestnut stallion is by Viva Voltaire out of a Salieri dam. Interestingly, Westside Lady was purchased from Walch by her owner, Susan Platz. Nancy MacLachlan of Terra Cotta, ON, took fourth with her 10-year-old Ukranian-bred gelding, Ariston, while Jessica Costello and Litmanen, a 13-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by Judy Elliott, rounded out the top five. "I was really happy, she is getting more consistent and more mature," raved Creech, who has been done all of Wiona's training and has been showing her at the Prix St. Georges level for three years. "It takes a long time to develop a horse, to develop the partnership. In the test she was focused and did a really good job. She knew what I wanted her to do, and she was more than willing to do it for me." Creech, who was born in the United States, grew up in Germany, and has been living in Canada for the past 10 years, will be returning to Germany on July 5 to train and compete with Wiona and Devon L, a six-year-old Hannoverian gelding by De Niro that will represent Canada at the FEI Young Horse World Breeding Championships in Verden, GER. Brockville's Andrea Bresee took second place with Raffles, a 12-year-old Canadian-bred mare owned by Gina Smith and Faith Berghuis. Bresee, who trains at Franklands Farm with Smith, an Olympic Bronze Medallist, earned a score of 67.95%. Another Canadian Olympian, Evi Strasser and Foto Tyme, her seven-year-old Westphalian gelding by Florestan I, earned a score of 67.70% to place third. Strasser also placed seventh with a score of 64.10% riding her Oldenburg gelding, Royal Tyme. Tom Dvorak of Hillsburgh, ON, and Fortissimo, a 10-year-old Canadian-bred gelding owned by Alyson Carpenter, took fourth place with 66.45% while Gillian Sutherland and Great Tyme, her nine-year-old Oldenburg gelding, rounded out the top five with 64.95%. Other winner's included Jessica Rhinelander who took both first and second place in the FEI Junior Team test. Riding Dostoevksy, Rhinelander earned 67.167% while her performance with Allende earned her second place with 65.417%. Tara Dougans and Jacardo won the FEI Young Riders' Team test with 64.089% while Ottawa's own Briannon Johnson was the runner-up with La Valse. For the second day in a row, Vivian Cornell, 13, of Kingston, ON, and her 15-year-old American Trakehner mare, Heidschnucke, won the FEI Children's competition. Tatianna Turcotte and Serenity's Dream On won the FEI Pony division with a score of 62.368%. The CDI3* Ottawa Summer Classic runs until Sunday, June 25, and admission is free.
