Euro Update: It's All About the European Championships

The European dressage scene is currently dominated by massive team selections for the 2007 European Pony, Junior and Young Riders Championships which all take place in Germany in July. The European Grand Prix riders are currently feeling hot air in their necks from their country's team selectors who are forming the teams for the CDIO Aachen (July 3-8) and the European Championships in Turin, Italy, the last weekend of August.

The 2007 European Pony Championships take place in Freudenberg, Germany, July 18-22. The German team consists of Louisa Lüttgen with Dornik B, Carlotta Hassenbürger with Dulcia, Sanneke Rothenberger with Konrad and reserve pony Domino Dancing, and Sönke Rothenberger with Deinhard B and reserve pony Wimbledon. The Belgian team includes Julie Van Olst (Haasendonck’s Sultan), Julie Van Ingelgem ( D’Artagnan), Jorinde Verwimp (Tonkawa SD) and American born Alexa Fairchild (Huckleberry Fin). Holland will be represented by Maria van den Dungen (Pan Tau B), Angela Krooswijk (Power and Paint), Kimberly de Jongh (Just You’N Me) and Antoinette ter Riele (Danny Boy B). (Read More on the ECP)

The 2007 European Junior and Young Riders Championship are hosted in Nussloch, Germany, July 10-15, 2007. Four countries have already announced their official teams. The race for gold and silver will most likely be between The Netherlands and Germany. Riding for Holland are juniors Chantal and Michelle van Lanen, Merel Peper and Mara de Vries. Lotje Schoots, Cindy van den Berg, Diederik van Silfhout and Marrigje van Baalen are the Dutch young riders. They will duel against German juniors Kristina Sprehe, Tom Berg, Christina Schütte and Verena van der Linde and German young riders Jill de Ridder, Fabienne Lütkemeier, Miriam Maurer, and Victoria Michalke. CDI Lingen: Hubertus Schmidt and Klaus Husenbeth Win Big

Hubertus Schmidt and Klaus Husenbeth were the grand winners of the big tour at Elke Kampmann's international competition in Lingen, Germany. Schmidt rode Anna Paprocka-Campanella's Andretti H to victory in the Special tour. He won the Grand Prix with 71.542% and the Special with 73.360%. American Arlene "Tuny" Page, who is currently training with Schmidt, placed 18th in the Grand Prix. Aboard Wild One (by Wanderer), she scored 64.625%. Klaus Husenbeth and Piccolino (by Prince Thatch xx) dominated the Kur tour, winning the Grand Prix with 71.667% and the Kur with 74.650%. American Heather Blitz, who is now living and training in Denmark, finished 9th in the Grand Prix aboard Otto (64.958%). In the Kur they ranked 12th 65.900%. (View all scores)
