Euro Update: Zuidenwind and Wynton Win 2008 Pavo Cup Finals
Photo courtesy: KWPN Initially two mares, Zoriana and Zolena, and one licensed stallion, Zizi Top, scored the highest points in the 4-year old semi-finals, but in the actual final round and guest judge rider round, it was the licensed stallion Zuidenwind (by OO Seven x Jazz) wo received the champion's sash. The bay scored the highest with guest judge riders Laurens van Lieren and Emile Faurie. Reserve champion was Zambuka (by Scandic x Biotop) under Jennifer Sekreve. Miranda Rongen, the rider who became 2007 World Young Horse Champion with Deveraux OLD, finished third with the KWPN bred Zico (by Riant x Ferro). In the 5-year old division, it was a battle of the bulge between KWPN stallions Wynton (by Jazz x Matador II) and Westpoint (by Jazz x Michelangelo). Wynton took the 2008 Pavo Cup Title with only a 0.5 point advantage. Both guest judge riders absolutely loved Wynston and Westpoint and gave both horses the same rideability score, but Witte-Vrees scored 174,5 in the finals' round while Scholtens received 174 from the judging committee which landed her in reserve champion's position. The third place went to American Katie Robicheaux on the grey gelding Williams (by Paddox x Michelangelo). She scored 163 in the finals' round and Williams received 175 points from the guest judge rider. Foal Quasar Sold for Record Knock Down Price of 120,000 euro Swiss business mogul Hannjorg Hereth paid 120,000 euro for the Hanoverian foal Quasar (by Quaterback x Wolkentanz I) at the 2008 Verden Foal Auction in Germany. The Swiss is also owner of the licensed stallion Locksley II and runs a breeding facility in France. Dakeur (by Dancier x Sixtus x Angard, bred by Elisabeth and Winfried Burkhard) sold for 75,000 €, the second highest price of the auction, to a Norwegian investor via Danish agent Per Skærbæk.
