Kay Moss, winner of the TheraPlate Grand Finale Door Prize during the 2015 Winter Equestrian Festival Lunch and Learn series, watches the “Sound Year Round” presentation sponsored by TheraPlate Revolution

Wellington, FL - In between exciting show jumping classes, the 2015 Winter Equestrian Festival featured educational presentations called Lunch and Learns each week at the Wellington Club at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center. After this year’s festival, attendees of the Lunch and Learn events are more educated than ever on a variety of topics that every horse lover should know about. The Lunch and Learn events educated riders, owners, trainers, and others while also supplying delicious lunches from White Horse Catering. This marks the fifth year for the Lunch and Learn events at the international show series. TheraPlate Revolution sponsored this season’s final Lunch and Learn, which featured U.S. Show Jumping Team Physiotherapist Janus Marquis of Corrales, New Mexico, and TheraPlate Founder and Owner Chip Kreiling of Weatherford, Texas.

Wellington, FL - Twenty-five-year-old Chase Hickok and the KWPN gelding Sagacious HF proved themselves to be an unstoppable force from the first time they went down centerline at the 2015 Adequan Global Dressage Festival. The pair finished the winter show season just as strongly as they started it, concluding a string of ten victories with an FEI Young Rider Grand Prix win on March 13. Hickok, who is trained by Kevin Kohmann based out of Diamante Farms, competed Sagacious in five competitive CDI weekends in the Under 25 division - and won all classes that she entered in the Wellington, Florida show series. Sometimes its a threesome that causes a problem and such was the case on Friday night, April 17th for the second leg of the Longines FEI World Cup Jumping Final II taking place in Las Vegas, NV. But this was a triple threat of a different kind and came at the end of a very tight and complicated situation. That threesome was the triple combination near the very end of a course designed by Anthony D’Ambrosio and it was where most of the riders downed a rail leaving only five to come back for the jump-off. And what a jump-off it was. While only one of the two nineteen year olds who placed first and second on the first night were among those chosen few, Richard Fellers and his 19-year-old Flexible finished fourth in the jump-off after downing one rail. And Ireland's 19-year-old Bertram Allen, the winner in the first round, rode his mare Molly Malone V to seventh.

California-based fashion and costume designer Melanie Sommer worked for two months to put together the elaborate fire-engine red costumes, which had tall feathered headdresses, bustiers and red sequined boots. The midday showcase kicked off with an Intermediare I Freestyle featuring Sabine Schut-Kery riding Alice Womble-Heitmann’s expressive Hanoverian stallion Sanceo, while Steffen Peters showed he has a serious rising star in Akiko Yamazaki’s/Four Winds Farms’ 8-year-old Rosamunde.

This is the fourth article on a new series that Markel is working on; Guidelines to follow when you own or operate an Equestrian Farm Property. For every threat of a mishap, there’s usually a simple safety measure that you can apply to eliminate or drastically reduce the possibility of an accident. However, you have to make sure you are looking in all the right places for possible pitfalls. The following safety tips can help you to reduce accidents and even save lives, but their effectiveness will depend on how frequently you use them – and on how well you communicate to others on your premises the importance of using them too. A successful safety program requires consistent supervision and planning. While these checklists do not take the place of the advice given by fire and police departments, utility specialists, and other trained professionals, they will provide suggestions for what to look for and how to establish your own safety program.

After earning her first World Cup title in 2014 in Lyon, Dujardin extended the honour this year and shared the World Cup podium with Dutch Edward Gal and German Jessica von Bredow-Werndl. They handily won the Grand Prix, with the 13-year-old Dutch gelding showing little evidence of the jet lag that had affected him after his arrival in Las Vegas. Their score of 85.414 percent was a few points shy of their world record-setting score of 87.460, but Dujardin was pleased nevertheless. “It’s just a mass of excitement for me to come here and take part,” she said....
